Migration of Indwelling Central Venous Catheter and Fatal Hydrothorax

Horner's syndrome secondary to hydromediastinum. A complication of extravascular migration of a central venous catheter.

We report the findings in a patient who developed Horner's syndrome as the first manifestation of mediastinal migration of a central venous catheter that resulted in hydromediastinum and hydrothorax. The pathogenesis of this complication of central venous catheterization is discussed.

Acute respiratory distress developed in two preterm babies because of unilateral hydrothorax secondary to the migration of a central venous catheter into the pulmonary vasculature.
